Carris 1836 – CAMO Grande Citadino

Bus operated by Carris seen at Praça Marquês de Pombal, Lisboa, in May 2012. This bus with fleet number 1836 is a CAMO Grande Citadino (or CAMO City Bus LF) registered in 2005 and included in a series of 20 units, 1821–1840, placed in service in 2005. It has an overall length of 39.2 ft and can accommodate 34 seated passengers and 50 standees (34+50+1). Esteban Urban 90 seats. It uses the Volvo B10L CNG chassis with the 213 kW (290 hp) Volvo GH10C engine. As a note of interest, GH10C denotes a natural gas engine ( G ) in horizontal configuration ( H ) with a nominal capacity of 10 000 cm³ ( 10 ). C is the engine version. Established in 1872 and based in  Lisboa , Companhia Carris de Ferro de Lisboa, whose name is usually shortened to Carris, operates regular services, regular specialized services and occasional services. This bus with fleet number 2341 is a Marcopolo Viale registered in 2005 and included in a series of 38 units, 2311–2348, placed in service in 2004–2005. It has an overall length of 39.4 ft and can accommodate 35 seated passengers and 50 standees (35+50+1). Esteban Urban 90 seats. It uses the MAN 18.310 HOCL-NL chassis with the 228 kW (310 hp) MAN D2866 LUH engine. As a note of interest, the 2201–2310 series, also placed in service in 2004–2005, uses the same MAN 18.310 HOCL-NL chassis, but combined with a Caetano City Gold MAN 2KD body. Some sources consider these two batches a single series, 2201–2348. Rodoviária de Lisboa 620 – Mercedes-Benz O 408

This coach with fleet number 620 is a Mercedes-Benz O 408 first registered in 1994 and placed in service by RL in 2004. It has an overall length of 39.1 ft, features semi-integral construction and uses the Mercedes-Benz OM 447 h engine. It presumably originates from the DB Regio/SBG Südbadenbus fleet based in Karlsruhe. Based in Loures , Rodoviária de Lisboa , whose name is usually shortened to RL, operates regular services in the municipalities of Lisboa, Loures, Odivelas and Vila Franca de Xira, as well as regular specialized services and occasional services. Here, we see this Mercedes-Benz O 408 on regular service 354, Lisboa (Campo Grande)–Vialonga (Quinta da Maranhota). At this time, the bus paint scheme denotes the area served by the route. This articulated bus with fleet number 327 is a Sunsundegui Interstylo first registered in 1993. It uses the Volvo B10MA articulated chassis. Based in Frielas , St.º António–Barraqueiro, or Joaquim Jerónimo–Santo António, operates regular services, regular specialized services and occasional services. Joaquim Jerónimo is the name of the founder of the Joaquim Jerónimo Lda. company established in 1933 and from which derives the present operation. St.º António comes from St.º António dos Cavaleiros , the geographic area served by this operator, which is part of the Barraqueiro group. Here, we see this Sunsundegui Interstylo in an occasional service. Produced from 1978 to 2003, the Volvo B10M chassis supersedes the Volvo B58 and precedes the Volvo B12M. Premissas de Liberdade

Por vezes, as pessoas perguntam-me porque gosto destas coisas , destes mundanos veículos de transporte público. De facto, gosto da maioria dos veículos. De bicicletas a naves espaciais. Gosto dos seus mecanismos e do seu movimento. Na minha infância, desde que me saia bem na escola, é-me permitido andar livremente pela cidade e arredores. E os autocarros e os eléctricos e os comboios suburbanos e os ferries tornam-se fascinantes premissas para a minha liberdade. Claro que existem perigos nas ruas – pedófilos e drogas e brigas violentas e sangue. Mas aprendemos a lidar com isso e além de algumas visitas ao hospital, raios-x e algumas cicatrizes as coisas tendem a terminar bem. À noite, ao folhear as páginas das revistas de transportes, sinto a necessidade de tirar as minhas próprias fotos e apontamentos destes fiéis companheiros de liberdade. Premises of Freedom

Sometimes, people ask me why I like these things , these mundane public transportation vehicles. In fact, I like most vehicles. From bicycles to spaceships. I like their mechanisms and their movement. In my childhood, as long as I do well in school, I’m allowed to roam freely around the city and its surroundings. And buses and streetcars and commuter trains and ferries become fascinating premises for my freedom. Of course there are dangers on the streets – pedophiles and drugs and violent fights and blood. But we learn to deal with it and apart from a few visits to the hospital, x-rays and a few scars, things tend to end well. At night, as I flip through the pages of transportation magazines, I feel the need to take my own photos and notes of these faithful freedom companions. I realize I need memories. Past memories, present memories, future memories – whatever. I realize this is my time and I want to make the best of it and remember and talk about it with my friends. And, for
