River cruise ship Ópera operated by Companhia de Cruzeiros Fluviais seen on the Tejo River arriving at the Alcântara dock , Lisboa, in June 2013. Previously Pinhal Novo , a ferry built in 1978 by Estaleiros São Jacinto, Aveiro, placed in service in 1980 by Companhia dos Caminhos de Ferro Portugueses and used on the Tejo River in the connection between Lisboa (Terreiro do Paço) and the Barreiro e Sul e Sueste train station. It has an overall length of 173.2 ft and can accommodate 1608 passengers (1608+8). It uses two 1536 kW (2060 hp) main engines and two fixed pitch propellers, reaching a top speed of 14 knots. It also benefits from a bow propeller. Steel hull and superstructure. It remains in service as Pinhal Novo , LX-3123-TL, until 2005. After withdrawal it is sold and reconditioned at the Naval Rocha shipyards, Lisboa, emerging as a river cruise ship, named Ópera and registered LX-429-AL.
