Trenitalia ETR.500.14 – Consorzio TREVI ETR.500 P
Electric multiple unit operated by Trenitalia seen at Roma Termini station in June 2009. This electric multiple unit with fleet number ETR.500.14 is a Consorzio TREVI ETR.500 P, included in a series of 30 train sets (M+12R+M) placed in service in 2005–2007. With an overall length of 1161.4 ft ¹ , they can accommodate 671 seated passengers ¹ . It is perhaps opportune to note that what we perceive as a multiple unit is, from a technical point of view, the coupling of two single-cab electric locomotives of the E.404.600-series, one at each end, to a set of 12 intermediate trailers. Each locomotive, fed via two pantographs, one for 3kV DC, the other for 25Kv AC/50 Hz, uses four asynchronous traction motors. Nominal output (wheels) is 4400 kW (5982 hp) and starting tractive effort is 170 kN. The in-service weight of the multiple unit (M+12R+M) is 642 t.
