Força Aérea Portuguesa – Protec-Fire MTEC 670 6x6

Fire apparatus operated by Força Aérea Portuguesa seen during an exhibition at Parque Eduardo VII, Lisboa , in June 2012. This fire apparatus , specifically a crash rig or airport crash tender , identified with the number 88, is a Protec-Fire ¹ MTEC 670 6x6 included in a series of 15 units put into service in 2008. It has a capacity for 2 642 US gal of water, 336 US gal of foam and 551 lb avdp of powder. Godiva WSA 6010 pump with a flow rate of up to 1 585 US gal per minute at 10 bar. This custom built vehicle ² uses the 522 kW (700 hp) ³ Caterpillar C18 ADEM ⁴ engine. It has all-wheel drive (6x6), can accelerate from 0 to 50 mph in 27 s and reach a maximum speed of 78 mph. Portugs "Portugs Sines" – Richards Shipbuilders

Tugboat operated by Portugs seen on the Tejo River in March 2024. This tugboat, named "Portugs Sines" and registered PT-104151-RC, is built in England by Richards Shipbuilders (Great Yarmouth) ¹ , completed in 1986 with yard number 583 and originally delivered as "Brightwell" to Alexandra Towing Company (Liverpool). It has an overall length of 94.5 ft and is equipped with two 1282 kW (1720 hp) ² Ruston 6RK270 main engines, providing a tractive effort ³ of 40 tons. Two water monitors. Top speed is 13 knots.  Coming from Harwich, England, this tug arrives in Portugal in 2010, joining the local Svitzer fleet and changing its name from "Svitzer Brightwell" to "Svitzer Sines". In 2019, the Danish company Svitzer, belonging to the Maersk group, which had started its activity in Portugal in 2005 as Svitzer Lisboa after acquiring Lisbon Tugs, sells its local operation to Pioneiro do Rio and Grupo Sousa, giving way to Portugs ⁴ in 2020. REBONAVE "Monforte" – Astilleros Zamakona

Tugboat operated by REBONAVE seen on the Tejo River moored next to Doca de Alcântara, Lisboa ,  in July 2023. This tugboat, named "Monforte" and registered PT-104898-RC, is built in Spain by Astilleros Zamakona (Bilbao) ¹ , completed in 1995 with yard number 319 and originally delivered to Remolcadores de Barcelona named "Montjoi". It has an overall length of 88.6 ft and is equipped with two 1325 kW (1801 hp) ² Ulstein Bergen KRMB-6 main engines and Schottel SRP 1010 ducted azimuth thrusters , providing a tractive effort  ³  of 45 tons (mt). Two water/foam monitors. Top speed is 11 knots.  Established in 1989 and based in Setúbal , REBONAVE ⁴ provides towage services, maritime assistance and rescue operations. In 2024 the fleet comprises 3 ocean-going tugs and 7 coastal tugs. Equinox Maritime "Equinox Seas" – Brodosplit

Bulk carrier operated by Equinox Maritime seen on the Tejo River moored at Terminal de Granéis Alimentares da Trafaria in October 2019. This bulk carrier, named "Equinox Seas" and registered IMO 9229697, is built in Croatia by Brodosplit ¹ and completed in 2003 with yard number 423. It has an overall length of 623 ft and a deadweight tonnage of 52 000 t and falls into the " Supramax " category of ships (50 000 to 60 000 DWT). It uses a Burmeister & Wain main engine. In 2024, Equinox Maritime ² , based in Greece, operates a fleet of over 20 bulk carriers. Here, we see the "Equinox Seas" on the south bank of the Tejo River, moored at Terminal de Granéis Alimentares da Trafaria operated by Silopor , cohabiting with an interesting variety of fishing motorboats. Most people like to take photos of flowers, funny kittens or children. I prefer industrial scenes, such as this one. I find poetry in its synergy. To my senses, this is an austere and quintesse

Seaspan Corporation "Seaspan Chiwan" – Samsung Heavy Industries

Container ship operated by Seaspan Corporation seen on the Tejo River leaving Lisboa in May 2014. This container ship, named "Seaspan Chiwan" and registered IMO 9224312, is built in South Korea by Samsung Heavy Industries (Geoje Shipyard) ¹ and completed in 2001 with yard number 1343. It has an overall length of 852.4 ft and can carry about 4250 TEU . It uses a 37 493 kW (50 976 hp) MAN B&W 8K90MC-C main engine and a Mecklenburger Metallguss fixed pitch propeller. Top speed is 24.5 knots. In 2024, Seaspan Corporation ² , wholly owned by Atlas Corp., operates a fleet of over 150 container ships, with a total capacity of over 1.9M TEU. Here, a decade earlier, we see the "Seaspan Chiwan" leaving Lisboa , assisted by the tugs "Svitzer Sines" and "Svitzer Funchal" (not visible in the image). Transtejo "Castelo" – FBM Marine TransCat

Ferry operated by Transtejo seen on the Tejo River arriving at Terminal Fluvial do Cais do Sodré in October 2019. This ferry of the catamaran type, named "Castelo" and registered LX-3169-TL, is an FBM Marine TransCat completed in 1995, yard number 1423. Aluminum hull and superstructure. It has an overall length of 147.6 ft and can accommodate 496 passengers (496+4). Fainsa Arianne seats. It uses two 960 kW (1287 hp)  Deutz MWM  TBD 616 V16 main engines and two Lips water jets, and can operate in just 6.6 ft of water. Service speed is 22 knots. Its class includes four vessels – "Algés", "Castelo", "Chiado" and "Bica". "Algés" and "Castelo" are designed and built in the United Kingdom by  FBM Marine   ¹ .
