This steam locomotive with fleet number CP 0186 is a Henschel & Sohn build, construction number 19895 (1925), included in a series of 10 units placed in service in 1925. Overall length (buffers) is 46.3 ft. It has a heating surface of 154,40 m² ( superheater , 54,97 m²) and a grate area of 3,02 m², feeding 2 cylinders (530x660 mm). The distribution is Walschaert and the driving wheels have a diameter of 65.1 in. Tractive effort is 107 kN (10877 kg). Weight in service is 98 t. Wheelset arrangement is 2-8+4T or 1'D2' h2t  ¹  and gauge is 5 ft 5 21⁄32 in. Top speed is approximately 31 mph. This Henschel & Sohn tank locomotive was used in freight, passenger or mixed services. CP, or Comboios de Portugal , is the main rail operator in Portugal and uses the 1354 miles  ²  rail system managed by Infraestruturas de Portugal. Steam locomotive formerly operated by CP seen at the premises of the Basque Railway Museum in Azpeitia in October 2008. This steam locomotive with fleet number CP E 205 is a Henschel & Sohn build, construction number 12280 (1913), included in a series of 16 units placed in service in 1911–1923. Overall length (buffers) is 39.7 ft. It has a heating surface of 123,30 m² and a grate area of 1,96 m², feeding 4 cylinders, 2 high pressure (350x550 mm) and 2 low pressure (500x550 mm). The distribution is Walschaert and the driving wheels have a diameter of 43.3 in. Tractive effort is 77 kN (7875 kg). Weight in service is 60 t. Wheelset arrangement is 2-4-6-0T or (1B')C n4vt  ¹  and gauge is 3 ft 3+3⁄8 in. I think the top speed will  be approximately 25 mph. This Mallet -type semi-articulated tank locomotive, with a " compound " system, built by Henschel & Sohn, and whose maximum axle load does not exceed 10600 kg, was capable of maintaining high levels of traction on s

CP 3151 – SOREFAME/Alstom

Electric multiple unit operated by CP seen at  Santo Amaro  station on the Cascais Line in February 2023. This 4-car electric unit with fleet number 3151 (coupled to 3-car unit 3262) is a SOREFAME / Alstom build, included in a series of 13 units placed in service in 1998. It results from the rehabilitation by Alstom ² of vehicles manufactured in Portugal in 1958–1982 by SOREFAME. With an overall length (couplers) of 259 ft, the 4-car units can accommodate 208 seated passengers (4x52). Under normal load, they admit 320 standing passengers (4x80). Fed via one pantograph by 1500 V DC, this electric multiple unit uses four traction motors in the motor unit, two per bogie. Nominal output is 960 kW (1287 hp) ³ and starting tractive effort is 105 kN. Weight in service is 147 t. It can run in multiple command, up to 3 units, in different combinations and up to a maximum of 10 cars. Wheelset arrangement is 2' 2'+Bo' Bo'+2' 2'+2' 2' and gauge is 5 ft 5 21⁄32 i

Trenitalia ETR.500.14 – Consorzio TREVI ETR.500 P

Image
Electric multiple unit operated by Trenitalia seen at Roma Termini station in June 2009. This electric multiple unit with fleet number ETR.500.14 is a Consorzio TREVI ETR.500 P, included in a series of 30 train sets (M+12R+M) placed in service in 2005–2007. With an overall length of 1161.4 ft  ¹ , they can accommodate 671 seated passengers  ¹ . It is perhaps opportune to note that what we perceive as a multiple unit is, from a technical point of view, the coupling of two single-cab electric locomotives of the E.404.600-series, one at each end, to a set of 12 intermediate trailers. Each locomotive, fed via two pantographs, one for 3kV DC, the other for 25Kv AC/50 Hz, uses four asynchronous traction motors. Nominal output (wheels) is 4400 kW (5982 hp) and starting tractive effort is 170 kN. The in-service weight of the multiple unit (M+12R+M) is 642 t. Wheelset arrangement is Bo' Bo'+[12x] 2'2'+Bo' Bo' and gauge is 4 ft 8+1⁄2 in. Top speed is 186 mph. This Conso
