Resistência "Alerta" – builder unknown

Tugboat operated by Resistência (Grupo Lutamar) ¹ seen on the Tejo River, Lisboa , in May 2014. It is the tugboat named " Alerta " and registered LX-101-RL. I do not know its origin ² . Several published sources say it was completed in 1913 and originally delivered to Sociedade Geral de Comércio, Indústria e Transportes (Lisboa) under the name " Cintra ". Steel hull and superstructure (presumably, original wooden superstructure). It has an overall length of 56 ft and is equipped with a 324 kW (435 hp) Caterpillar main engine, providing a tractive effort ³ of 7 tons. Top speed is 10 knots. Due to their relative simplicity and, above all, robustness, tugboats normally have long service lives, with equipment being updated according to the evolution of operational needs. The " Alerta ", small but deep-voiced and sufficiently muscled for its functions, is proof of that and finding it on the Tejo River in 2023 is still a pleasure for many of us. I hope ...
