Image
Double-deck coach operated by António Atalaia seen at Gare do Oriente, Lisboa, in July 2019. This double-deck coach is a GAF Voga II DD registered in 2001. It uses the Scania K124EB 6x2 chassis with the Scania DC12 engine. Established in 1988 and based in Lever , António Atalaia operates regular services, regular specialized services and occasional services. Here, we see this GAF Voga II DD in an occasional service.  For some years, quality express services were associated with imposing and comfortable double-deck coaches made in Portugal, such as the Caetano Beta 4000, the CAMO Apollo DD, the Alfredo Caetano DD or the GAF Voga II DD. With the advent of the PB era, many were relegated to regular interurban services and occasional services. This Voga II DD, manufactured by GAF (Geraldo, Marques, Soares & Cª Lda.) in Vila Nova de Gaia, is an illustrious representative of that period which, due to its qualities, certainly justified its long service life. Seeing it well preserved,...

Image
Double-deck coach used by Casa do Concelho de Ponte de Lima seen at Praça D. Pedro IV, Lisboa, in May 2013. This double-deck coach is an Irizar Dragón first registered in 1991. It can accommodate 77 seated passengers and uses the Scania K113TLA chassis possibly equipped with the 265 kW (360 hp) Scania DC11 engine. Established in 1987 and based in Lisboa, Casa do Concelho de Ponte de Lima promotes the rich history, culture and tradition of this Portuguese region. Here, we see this Irizar Dragón waiting for the " rancho folclórico ", or folk dance group, during a cultural event in downtown Lisboa. Available from 1985 to 1996, the Irizar Dragón is a rare incursion of the Basque manufacturer into the double-deck typology. It is presumably based on the Everest, available from 1981 to 1990 and replaced by the much acclaimed Century in 1989. As far as I know, the Dragón is always delivered with the Scania K113TLA chassis equipped with the 265 kW (360 hp) Scania DC11 engine. The Ir...

It has an overall length of approximately 39.4 ft. It uses the MAN 16.370 HOCL/A chassis with the MAN D2866 LOH engine. Based in Torres Novas , Rodoviária do Tejo operates regular services, regular specialized services, and occasional services. Here, we see this CAMO Apollo DD in an occasional service. Some readers will notice the luggage lid with a different paint scheme, possibly coming from a donor vehicle (first lid on the right side of a three-axle unit?). As a note of interest regarding the MAN chassis, HOCL/A denotes a bus chassis (OC, Omnibuschassis ), equipped with a rear engine (H, Heck ) and air suspension (L, Luft ). Credible sources tell me the /A comes from the Portuguese expression Autoportante , denoting a self-supporting body. Still, I find peculiar the presence of a Portuguese ex...
