Electric multiple unit operated by Trenitalia seen at Roma Termini station in June 2009. This electric multiple unit with fleet number ETR.500.14 is a Consorzio TREVI ETR.500 P, included in a series of 30 train sets (M+12R+M) placed in service in 2005–2007. With an overall length of 1161.4 ft  ¹ , they can accommodate 671 seated passengers  ¹ . It is perhaps opportune to note that what we perceive as a multiple unit is, from a technical point of view, the coupling of two single-cab electric locomotives of the E.404.600-series, one at each end, to a set of 12 intermediate trailers. Each locomotive, fed via two pantographs, one for 3kV DC, the other for 25Kv AC/50 Hz, uses four asynchronous traction motors. This electric multiple unit with fleet number 450.11  ¹  is a Fiat Ferroviaria ETR.450, included in a series of 15 9-car train sets  ²  placed in service in 1988–1992. With an overall length of 767.4 ft, they can accommodate 390 seated passengers, 126 of which in first classs. Fed via pantograph by 3 kV DC, this electric multiple unit uses 16 traction motors, two per motor unit, each transmitting movement to the bogie's inner axle, (1A)(A1). Nominal output (wheels) is 5008 kW (6809 hp) and starting tractive effort is 190 kN. Wheelset arrangement is (1A)'(A1)'+(1A)'(A1)'+(1A)'(A1)'+(1A)'(A1)'+2'2'+(1A)'(A1)'+(1A)'(A1)'+(1A)'(A1)'+(1A)'(A1)' and gauge is 4 ft 8 1⁄2 in. Top speed is 155 mph. The maximum tilting angle is 8º.
