This container ship, named "Seaspan Chiwan" and registered IMO 9224312, is built in South Korea by Samsung Heavy Industries (Geoje Shipyard) ¹ and completed in 2001 with yard number 1343. It has an overall length of 852.4 ft and can carry about 4250 TEU . It uses a 37 493 kW (50 976 hp) MAN B&W 8K90MC-C main engine and a Mecklenburger Metallguss fixed pitch propeller. Top speed is 24.5 knots. In 2024, Seaspan Corporation ² , wholly owned by Atlas Corp., operates a fleet of over 150 container ships, with a total capacity of over 1.9M TEU. Here, a decade earlier, we see the "Seaspan Chiwan" leaving Lisboa , assisted by the tugs "Svitzer Sines" and "Svitzer Funchal" (not visible in the image).
