Svitzer "Svitzer Sines" – Richards Shipbuilders
Tugboat operated by Svitzer seen on the Tejo River, Lisboa, in May 2014. This tugboat named "Svitzer Sines" and registered LX-38-RC, is built in England by Richards Shipbuilders (Great Yarmouth) ¹, completed in 1986 with yard number 583 and originally delivered as "Brightwell" to Alexandra Towing Company (Liverpool). It has an overall length of 94.5 ft and is equipped with two 1282 kW (1720 hp) ² Ruston 6RK270 main engines, providing a tractive effort ³ of 40 tons. Two water monitors. Top speed is 13 knots. Operating in Portugal since 2005, Svitzer ⁴ gives way in 2020 to Pioneiro do Rio and Grupo Sousa. Here, we see the tugboat "Svitzer Sines" decked out on a festive day on the Tejo River, during the visit of the three cruise ships – "Queen Mary 2" (2003), "Queen Victoria" (2007) and "Queen Elizabeth" (2010). Este rebocador com o nome de "Svitzer Sines" e registado LX-38-RC, é construído em Inglaterra pela Richards Shipbuilders (Great Yarmouth) ¹, completado em 1986 com o número de construção 583 e originalmente entregue como "Brightwell" à Alexandra Towing Company (Liverpool). Tem um comprimento total de 28,80 m e está equipado com duas máquinas principais Ruston 6RK270 de 1282 kW (1720 hp) ², disponibilizando um esforço de tracção ³ de 40 toneladas. Dois monitores de água. A velocidade máxima é de 13 nós. Operando em Portugal desde 2005, a Svitzer ⁴ dá lugar em 2020 à Pioneiro do Rio e Grupo Sousa. Aqui, vemos o rebocador "Svitzer Sines" engalanado em dia de festa no Rio Tejo, durante a visita dos três navios de cruzeiros – "Queen Mary 2" (2003), "Queen Victoria" (2007) e "Queen Elizabeth" (2010). ¹ "Richards (Shipbuilders) Ltd." or "Richards Shipbuilders Ltd.", Lowestoft and Yarmouth (1954–994). For what I understand, the Yarmouth yard closes in the late 1980s, while the Lowestoft survives until 1994. I presume Richards Dry Dock & Engineering Ltd. tries to resume ship building and repair activities in the Great Yarmouth yard. Please, do correct me if I am wrong.

Aqui, em Maio de 2014, vemos o "Svitzer Sines" a regressar à sua base depois de mais um serviço, passando pelos companheiros "Svitzer Funchal", "Svitzer Leixões" e "Svitzer Lisboa". Mais atrás, o rebocador "Portel" operado pela Rebosado. Também visível, um dos robustos guindastes construídos em Portugal pela extinta MAGUE. ●
Long time, so much sea!
My lack of empathy towards mega cruise ships is publicly known – to the point of not even photographing them. However, on this day I made an exception. First, because in spite of carrying out cruises, the "RMS Queen Mary 2" is technically an ocean liner, a legitimate descendant of the "RMS Queen Mary" or my favorites "SS Normandie" and "SS United States". And then, because if we are to believe that these sea creatures made of steel have emotions, it must have been a happy moment for the "Svitzer Sines" to see the "Queen Mary 2" on this special occasion. In 2004, in Southampton, then as "Brightwell", she certainly watched the departure of the "Queen Mary 2" for her maiden voyage. In Lisboa, the happy reunion. ●
É publicamente conhecida a minha falta de empatia para com mega navios de cruzeiros – ao ponto de sequer os fotografar. Todavia, neste dia abri uma excepção. Primeiro, porque apesar de efectuar cruzeiros, o "RMS Queen Mary 2" é tecnicamente um transatlântico, descendente legítimo do "RMS Queen Mary" ou dos meus favoritos "SS Normandie" e "SS United States". E depois, porque se quisermos acreditar que estas criaturas marítimas em aço têm emoções, deve ter sido um momento feliz para o "Svitzer Sines" rever o "Queen Mary 2" nesta ocasião especial. Em 2004, em Southampton, então como "Brightwell", assistiu decerto à partida do "Queen Mary 2" para sua viagem inaugural. Em Lisboa, o feliz reencontro. ●
