Carris 4223 – Irmãos Mota Atomic Urbis


Bus operated by Carris seen on Rua Braamcamp, Lisboa, in August 2020. Here, we see this Irmãos Mota Atomic Urbis on regular service 720, Picheleira–Alto de St.º Amaro. A pleasant summer day prone to nostalgia, despite the ubiquitous restrictions due to the pandemic. In fact, all I need to do is close my eyes briefly to bring back other summer days, those in which on this same street I see the valiant AEC Regal IIIs passing by in the predecessor of this service, then designated, 20, Picheleira–B.º da Serafina.

After the disastrous choice of the British operator VODAFONE as my internet provider, which sent my connectivity back into the dark ages and whose mediocre or non-existent service affected five months of publications (September, October, November, December and January), it is finally possible to bypass the obstacle with the support of an interested party. The return to normality should occur from February 20th, closing with sixteen publications the cycle dedicated to passenger vessels in regular or tourist service on the Tejo River. As a note of interest, partly motivated by this disastrous experience with the British operator VODAFONE, I will soon launch a new digital space –  UNPLEASANT | LX . It will be interesting. This bus with fleet number 2443 is a Caetano City Gold MAN 2KD registered in 2005 and included in a series of 50 units, 2401–2450, placed in service in 2005–2006. It has an overall length of 39.4 ft and can accommodate 35 seated passengers and 44 standees (35+44+1). Esteban Urban 90 seats. It uses the MAN 18.280 HOCL-NL chassis with the 206 kW (280 hp) MAN D0836 LOH engine. As a note of interest, the 2451–2500-series, placed in service in 2006, uses the same MAN 18.280 HOCL-NL chassis, but combined with a Marcopolo Viale body.
