Douro Acima – MAN SD 202


Double-deck sightseeing bus operated by Douro Acima/CitySightseeing seen at Praça dos Restauradores, Lisboa, in June 2016. This double-deck sightseeing bus is a MAN SD 202 first registered in 1992. It is presumably the ex-3943 (BV 3943) of Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (Berlin) ¹. It has a Waggon Union body ² and an overall length of 37.6 ft. In service with Douro Acima/CitySightseeing, it can accommodate 76 seated passengers, 13 standees, and 1 passenger with reduced mobility (76+36+1PRM+1). It uses the 150 kW (204 hp) MAN D2566 UH engine. 

This MAN SD 202 is part of a batch of 40 double-deck D-type buses ³ delivered to the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) in 1992, designated D 92 and numbered 3928–3967. Upon completing their service with BVG, some of these buses were sold and modified for sightseeing services by private operators, such as Douro Acima in Portugal. In addition to necessary mechanical upgrades, Douro Acima has also refreshed the appearance of some examples, as you can see here. Based in Porto, Douro Acima began operating cruises along the Douro River in 1997, hence the traditional stylized Rabelo boat in the emblem. In 2004, Douro Acima expanded its activities to regular sightseeing bus services in partnership with the City Sightseeing brand. In 2016, its characteristic red buses were a familiar sight in Porto, Aveiro, Sintra, Lisbon, Albufeira, and Funchal. Here, we see this MAN SD 202 in one of the various specialized regular services offered for the city of Lisboa.

Ao serviço da Douro Acima/CitySightseeing pode acomodar 76 passageiros sentados, 13 de pé, e 1 passageiro com mobilidade reduzida (76+36+1PMR+1). Utiliza o motor MAN D2566 UH de 150 kW (204 hp). 

Este MAN SD 202 é parte de um lote de 40 autocarros de dois pisos do tipo D ³ entregues à Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) em 1992, designados D 92 e numerados 3928–3967. Ao terminarem a sua carreira na BVG, alguns destes autocarros são vendidos e modificados para serviços panorâmicos por operadores privados, como a Douro Acima em Portugal. Para além das devidas actualizações mecânicas, a Douro Acima tem também refrescado a aparência em alguns exemplares, como se pode ver aqui. Baseada no Porto, a Douro Acima começa a operar cruzeiros ao longo do Rio Douro em 1997, daí o tradicional barco Rabelo estilizado no emblema. Em 2004, a Douro Acima expande as suas actividades para serviços regulares com autocarros panorâmicos em parceria com a marca City Sightseeing. Em 2016, os seus característicos autocarros vermelhos são uma presença familiar no Porto, Aveiro, Sintra, Lisboa, Albufeira e Funchal. Aqui, vemos este MAN SD 202 num dos vários serviços regulares especializados propostos para a cidade de Lisboa.
